Sustainability Initiatives for Green Campus

Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) is committed to developing and maintaining a Green Campus that promotes environmental sustainability, efficient resource utilization, and community wellbeing. The University integrates sustainability principles into campus planning, infrastructure development, healthcare services, academic activities, and day-to-day operations, ensuring a balanced approach to environmental protection and institutional growth. Key Green Campus initiatives focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption. The University has implemented the use of energy-efficient LED lighting, optimization of electrical systems, and awareness programs to promote responsible energy consumption. Solar energy installations across selected buildings further support the reduction of dependence on conventional energy sources and contribute to lowering carbon emissions. Water conservation and management form an integral component of campus sustainability. SRHU has established rainwater harvesting systems and groundwater recharge mechanisms to enhance water availability. Efficient water-use practices, regular monitoring, and reuse of treated wastewater for gardening and landscaping ensure sustainable water management across the campus. The University follows structured waste management practices, including segregation of waste at source, composting of biodegradable waste, recycling of paper and plastic waste, and responsible disposal of biomedical and e-waste through authorized agencies. Efforts are also made to minimize the use of single-use plastics within the campus. Biodiversity conservation is actively promoted through extensive green landscaping, regular tree plantation drives, maintenance of green cover, and protection of native plant species. These initiatives contribute to ecological balance, improved air quality, and a healthy campus environment. SRHU also emphasizes air quality management and climate responsibility through periodic air quality monitoring, promotion of green mobility practices, and initiatives aimed at reducing the campus carbon footprint. Sustainable practices are extended to healthcare and academic operations to minimize environmental impact while ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Through its Green Campus Initiative, SRHU demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
