General Medicine

General Medicine is the medical specialty dealing with prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Doctors specializing in internal medicine are called internists or physicians. They are skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multisystem diseases. They care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and play a major role in teaching and research.
Department of Medicine offers course of MD (General Medicine) besides Undergraduate training. It has a pivotal role in the medical Institute.
When a patient visits the Emergency, he/she is attended by a team of multi-specialty doctors who initiate the treatment in a coordinated manner.
With respect to teaching, a unique aspect of our Undergraduate teaching is the great emphasis laid on the research content. In addition to classroom teaching, which comprises of theory lecture & tutorials, students are also exposed to bedside teaching and other co-curricular inputs.
Our Postgraduate residents undergo rigorous rotational training in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Haematology, Oncology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine with each resident getting to work about 3 months in each of these specialities during his/her 3-year training. The teaching is generally in the form of Seminars, Journal Clubs, Recent Advances, Case presentations, CPC case discussions and Clinico-radiological meets - all by the residents, besides occasional lectures by faculty.
Being a tertiary care hospital, both UG and PG students get an opportunity to work with not only a large number of patients but also a variety of diseases.
The department has a rich library and subscribes to international/national journals of repute.
The department has several distinguished faculty members coming from top ranking institutes of the country, who are actively involved in research, with extensively cited publications in international journals, to their credit.
The department stresses on developing a holistic health care approach among students as well as faculty members as envisioned by His Holiness Swami Rama, the founder of this institute.
