The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) carries out ranking of higher education institutions in the country under the MHRD. The methodology uses several parameters covering “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”. Ranking is done both at overall institution level (University/ College) and/ or discipline wise.

The NIRF ranking for 2024 was released in 16 categories which included Universities as well as other institutions running Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Medical, Dental, Architecture & Planning, and Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Additionally, Open Universities, State Public Universities and Skill Universities. The ranking system is considered to promote excellence in education in a competitive environment. It helps students choose the best University/Institute.
