  1. Short Title & Commencement
    1. This Policy shall be called the “Policy for Plastic and Disposable Items Minimization” of Swami Rama Himalayan University.
    2. This Policy shall be deemed to have come into force from the date of approval of the Board of Management of the University.
  2. Purpose
    1. This policy outlines Swami Rama Himalayan University’s commitment to minimizing the use of plastic and disposable materials across its operations and supply chain. The goal is to reduce environmental impact, promote sustainable alternatives, and align with global efforts to reduce plastic waste.
  3. Scope
    1. All departments and employees of Swami Rama Himalayan University.
    2. Contractors, vendors, and suppliers engaged with Swami Rama Himalayan University.
    3. All activities, products, and services where plastic or disposable materials are used.
  4. Goals
    1. Eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics (e.g., straws, cutlery, cups, packaging).
    2. Replace disposable items with reusable, biodegradable, or recyclable alternatives.
    3. Encourage suppliers to adopt similar reduction measures.
    4. Promote awareness and training among employees and stakeholders on responsible plastic use.
    5. Monitor and report progress on plastic reduction annually.
  5. Implementation Measures
    1. Internal Practices
      1. Phase out single-use plastics in offices, cafeterias, and events.
      2. Encourage the use of refillable bottles, cups, and containers.
      3. Use bulk purchasing to reduce packaging waste.
      4. Provide segregated bins for recycling and composting.
    2. Procurement & Supply Chain
      1. Prefer suppliers who use minimal or sustainable packaging.
      2. Include sustainability clauses in procurement contracts requiring suppliers to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics.
      3. Collaborate with suppliers to find eco-friendly packaging and material alternatives.
      4. Evaluate suppliers on their environmental performance as part of procurement criteria.
    3. Communication & Training
      1. Conduct awareness sessions for employees and suppliers.
      2. Share best practices and sustainability guidelines with partners.
      3. Recognize and reward departments and suppliers who demonstrate leadership in plastic minimization.
  6. Monitoring & Review for Compliance
    1. Conduct periodic audits of plastic usage and waste generation.
    2. Set measurable targets (e.g., percentage reduction per year).
    3. Review and update this policy annually to ensure continuous improvement.

    The University will comply with all relevant minimization of plastic and disposable items in the campus.

  7. This policy shall be reviewed every three years or earlier if required to accommodate new educational practices, regulatory requirements, or emerging student needs.
  8. The University reserves the right to interpret, alter, amend, modify, cancel or withdraw any or all provision mentioned herein above in this policy without any notice.
  9. In case of any dispute, the decision of the Vice Chancellor of the University shall be final and binding.
