About the SDG Cell
The SDG Cell at Swami Rama Himalayan University functions as the University’s nodal unit for planning, coordinating, and monitoring sustainability initiatives in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Cell provides an institutional framework to integrate sustainability principles across governance, academics, healthcare services, research, campus operations, and community engagement.
Through a structured and data-driven approach, the Cell supports environmentally responsible practices, strengthens social responsibility, and promotes long-term institutional sustainability.
Mandate, Functions and Core Activities
- Serve as the central coordinating body for all SDG- and sustainability-related initiatives at the University.
- Integrate sustainability principles into institutional policies, strategic planning, and operational practices.
- Plan and implement sustainable campus management initiatives, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and air quality monitoring.
- Promote sustainable healthcare practices aligned with environmental protection and public health priorities.
- Undertake capacity building and awareness generation through training programmes, workshops, and campaigns for students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and staff.
- Facilitate student engagement and leadership through clubs, project-based learning, volunteering, and experiential sustainability activities.
- Support and encourage research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in sustainability-related domains.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, industries, and international institutions.
- Implement community outreach programmes addressing environmental education, water conservation, sanitation, and public health.
- Ensure regular monitoring, documentation, and reporting of key sustainability indicators, including carbon footprint and environmental performance.
