Paramedical Sciences - Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences
The Department of Paramedical Sciences, HIMS, aims to be a Centre of Excellence and deliver high-quality teaching-learning in the areas of Paramedics. We enable our students to be technical experts and support medical professionals to impart improved healthcare to society.
Our department adopts a multi-disciplinary approach and engages students through a wide range of advanced academic activities such as conferences, seminars, special workshops, research-based projects, assignments, etc.
Access to 1200 bed teaching hospital, NABL-accredited labs, sophisticated operation theatres, etc., provides exposure to students on a wide spectrum of diseases and keeps them up-to-date on the latest developments in the field.
We have a highly competent team of faculty with a combination of both clinical & academic, who not only provide theoretical knowledge but also empower students with applied skills such as field postings, patient interactions, training in simulated environments to deal with invasive procedures exposure to critical patients, etc.
With the expanding technological advancement in the healthcare industry, there is an upsurge in demand for skilled paramedical professionals. This has opened career avenues in hospitals, public health laboratories, pharmaceuticals, the medical instrument sector, and research. Besides, private practice or specialization through fellowship programs in different branches of the related course may be undertaken.

Our academic activities are recognized as progressive and clinically relevant with a focus on practical learning, innovation, skill development, and exposure to the latest advancements in Nursing.
Students receive knowledge and skills through lessons in laboratories, guest lectures from industry experts, tutorials, visits to companies, workshops, seminars, inter-disciplinary programs & projects, small group activities, and individual discussions, selectively utilizing multimedia and digital platforms.
Students also get extensive exposure in a range of nursing fields, including specialist labs, conferences, seminars, special workshops, research-based projects, and assignments/field projects
Besides theoretical knowledge, students are empowered with applied skills such as field postings, patient interactions, training in a simulated environments to deal with treatment procedures, and exposure critical to patient management and rehabilitation
Faculty
Department of Paramedical Sciences has a highly competent team of experienced & dedicated faculty with a combination of academia and clinical. Entire HIMS teaching faculty has doctoral degrees and are research experts who help render quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students assisting them in developing expertise and in-depth understanding of the paramedical sciences.

- Understand the fundamentals and build advanced knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Carry out diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases through clinical laboratory tests.
- Build a skillset to perform the tests that help in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- Handle advance equipment which is essential for accurate Laboratory tests
- Understand the work and Management of Operation Theatre .
- Prepare and manage the patients, in addition to observing the intricate details of an operation theatre.
- Build specialized skills required for surgical instruments disinfection & sterilization.
- To take care of medications, anesthetic gases sterilization, and other necessities during surgery.
- Ensure smooth working of ICUs, CCUs, and Operation theatres.
- Maintain the decorum and ethics of the operation theatre in the hospital.
- Build skill set as professional Radiation therapist.
- Develop critical thinking and trouble-solving skills needed for professional practice.
- Build demonstration abilities through proper and effective communication.
- 4. Manage, assess, and also use scientific technological information applicable to proper patient care services.
- Build specialized knowledge in the field of Radiotherapy.
- Develop skills in diagnostic Radiography and enhance professional skills using Radiographic imaging technology.

- Build and apply capabilities of traditional and modern tools & techniques in the field of Radiotherapy.

- Develop conceptual and practical aspects of the various disorders that people suffer from in terms of speech and hearing.
- Efficient in using various techniques to check whether an individual is hearing impaired or not.
- Trained to identify and differentiate different diagnoses of auditory disorders.
- Trained to identify disorders of the middle ear, inner ear, auditory nerve, and central auditory nervous system.
- Trained for rehabilitation of people suffering from these disorders.
- Gain an understanding of structure & functioning of the eye.
- Learn and understand about prescribing spectacles, contact lenses & low vision devices.
- Assess the patient’s eyes to identify vision, defects and injuries.
- Evaluate eye defects and maintain medical files of the patients.
- Perform eye inspections and compile & record treatment plans.
- Adequately inform patients about treatment procedures and their benefits.
- Conduct independent patient assessments and treatments as a physiotherapist.
- Assist students and young professionals in learning and developing their skills.
- 4. Develop independent research projects in the field of physiotherapy.
- PG
- Specialization in physiotherapy focuses on the treatment of the musculoskeletal system that has been subjected to injury or trauma.
- Understand sprains, strains, post-fracture, post-surgery & repetitive injuries of neck, back & extremities.
- Use advanced soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point release, joint mobilization, cupping, dry needling, and strapping.
- Improve physical functions of patients using physical therapy
- You will learn various diagnosing, preventive and therapeutic procedures and techniques related to neurology.
- With specialization in Neurology you will be able to go a step beyond remedial massage, and use advanced soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point release, joint mobilization, cupping, dry needling and strapping.
- You will be able to deal with neurological disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves; such as stroke, MS, and Parkinson’s disease.

- Acquire a thorough understanding of how Dialysis Technology can be applied to effectively provide health care services.
- Diagnose and manage clinical problems confidently.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
