Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DGO)

The purpose of this programme is to prepare competent Gynaecologists and Obstetricians trained in the basic as well as specialized care of the highest quality. The students get a chance to manage patients in all sub-specialities of the subject including high-risk obstetrics, infertility, gynae oncology, family planning and gynae endocrinology. They also get a chance to deal with all types of patients and get exposure to work in Intensive Care Unit and primary and secondary health centers.

The students get teaching expertise as they take part in teaching and training of undergraduates and paramedical professionals. They will actively participate in live demonstrations, CME’s and case presentations. The students will be exposed to research activities and get to attend various national as well as international conferences.

HIMS is a tertiary care center and gets patient input from all over Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh. The students in these two years get to see all types of rare cases related to the speciality.

Child Health (DCH)

The goal of Diploma programme in Child Health is to provide comprehensive clinical training in paediatrics & neonatology.  Students are trained across various areas like Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Rural Community Health Center and Urban Community Health Center.

NICU will enable students to manage extremely Low Birth Weight Babies, Hyaline Membrane Diseases and Exchange transfusions. In PICU, students are trained in all types of high-risk conditions and invasive & non-invasive blood pressure monitoring. Both NICU and PICU have invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

The students will get opportunities to participate in case presentations, journal clubs, CMEs, group discussions, and live demonstrations. At the end of the programme, the students will have adequate knowledge in community and preventable paediatrics along with adequate counseling skills.

Medical Radio Diagnosis (DMRD)

After the prescribed period of training, the postgraduate radiology students will have a sound knowledge in basic sciences related to Radio diagnosis, Clinical Radiology, Interventional Radiology and Emergency Radiology including MLC cases. They would learn to refer cases to appropriate specialist, advise on patient’s management and carry out researches.

It is a structured programme with definite lectures, seminars and tutorials. Students will get an opportunity to publish their work and present at scientific meets, attend conferences, seminars, workshops etc.

The major component is clinical training based on the system of apprenticeship, where the trainees are involved and perform increasing complex Radiological procedures under supervision. The Radiology Postgraduate students should progressively be conversant with the basic clinical sciences relevant to diagnostic imaging, the pathological and functional aspect of disease, current management of diseases and the role of Radiology in the Management of patient’s care. Thus every Radiology student will become a clinical Radiologist progressively by the end of the training period. This course also inculcates human, ethical and moral values.

Orthopaedics (D.Ortho.)

The purpose of this programme is to prepare competent orthopaedic surgeon trained in the basic as well as specialized care of the highest quality. This is the first department in the country to develop a competency based training programme in orthopaedics. The programme helps the student in acquiring effective clinical skills, basic surgical skills, proper maintenance of clinical records and research to interested students.  Students are also exposed to sub-specialities of the subject including advanced trauma, arthroplasty, spine, arthroscopy, hand surgeries and paediatric surgeries. They get opportunities to deal with all types of patients, work in Intensive Care Unit and primary & secondary health centers.

The students get teaching expertise as they take part in teaching and training of undergraduates and paramedical professionals. They actively participate in live demonstrations, CME’s case presentations, seminars and journal club. The institution boasts of a state-of-the-art cadaveric lab for learning basic orthopaedic surgeries. The students will have ample of opportunities to attend state and national conferences.

Patients come to Himalayan Hospital (HH) from the entire state of Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh.  This provides opportunities to students in getting exposure to all types of cases related to the speciality.
