The ACM Student Chapter at the Himalayan School of Science & Technology, Swami Rama Himalayan University, organized its inaugural event, Algorithm Arena, on 11th February 2025. Held in Computer Lab 6, the event brought together 72 participants from various academic disciplines, marking a spirited start to the chapter’s activities. The two-and-a-half-hour event was designed to test and sharpen programming and problem-solving abilities in a competitive yet collaborative environment.
Algorithm Arena unfolded in two stimulating rounds. The first round featured a dry run challenge in the C programming language, setting a foundational stage for logical reasoning. The second round allowed participants the freedom to choose any programming language to solve live coding problems, encouraging both creativity and technical versatility. This structure offered students an ideal platform to translate their theoretical knowledge into hands-on application.
The event was graced by Dr. Pramod Kumar, Principal of HSST, and Dr. Ashutosh Bhatt, Faculty Advisor of the ACM Student Chapter. Their presence lent motivation and prestige to the occasion, as they encouraged students to actively participate in tech-driven learning experiences. Participants demonstrated commendable enthusiasm, making the competition an exciting display of coding talent and strategic thinking.
Beyond identifying winners, the event succeeded in fostering a culture of learning and innovation. It helped students connect with like-minded peers and explore the broader vision of the ACM Student Chapter. The collective energy, competitive spirit, and student engagement marked Algorithm Arena as a resounding success.
As the first official event of the chapter, Algorithm Arena laid a strong foundation for future initiatives. It underscored the importance of practical experience in technical education and reinforced the value of collaboration in today’s fast-evolving tech landscape.
