On 8th May 2025, a field visit was conducted for BCA – II Semester (Section B) students from the School of Science & Technology (SST), Swami Rama Himalayan University, as part of their Environmental Studies curriculum. The visit to the university’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) aimed to offer firsthand understanding of wastewater treatment and environmental sustainability practices.
The STP at SRHU plays a crucial role in treating sewage from various campus sources, including the hospital, residential blocks, academic areas, and hostels. Students explored the step-by-step process of treatment, which includes primary sedimentation, aeration, secondary sedimentation, and filtration using sand and activated charcoal. The interactive visit helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications.
During the session, students actively observed and recorded the differences between untreated and treated water and engaged in discussions to better understand the operational details of the plant. They also took photographs and notes to support their assignments and reports, showing keen interest in the technical and environmental aspects of the process.
With 51 participants, the visit proved to be an enriching academic experience. It successfully deepened their awareness of environmental systems and highlighted the importance of managing wastewater responsibly. The field visit not only enhanced classroom learning but also nurtured a sense of environmental responsibility and analytical thinking among the students.
