Building Character and Integrity: Session on Human Values and Professional Ethics
As part of the Dikshaarambh Orientation Program 2025–26, the School of Science & Technology (SST), Swami Rama Himalayan University, organized a session on Human Values and Professional Ethics on 20th August 2025 at the Visvesvaraya Auditorium. The session was conducted by Ms. Neelam Danu, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Department of Applied Science and Humanities. A total of 217 first-year students attended the session.
The session focused on the meaning of human values, their role in guiding decision-making, and their relevance in everyday life. Ms. Danu also explained the concept of ethics and its interconnection with human values, highlighting how professional ethics form the foundation of responsible and effective professionals. By drawing connections between values, ethics, and professional conduct, she emphasized the need for students to develop not just knowledge and skills, but also integrity, accountability, and empathy.
The primary objective of the session was to sensitize students to the importance of human values and ethics in shaping their academic and professional journey. Students were guided on how ethical behavior and value-based decision-making can lead to excellence, respect, and trust in their future roles.
The session achieved its aim by helping students recognize the role of values and ethics in both personal and professional spheres. They gained awareness about the importance of honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect as key qualities of a good professional. Moreover, the talk encouraged students to reflect upon their own values and apply them in academic, social, and workplace contexts.
By instilling the significance of human values and professional ethics early in their university journey, the session laid a strong foundation for nurturing responsible, ethical, and socially conscious professionals at SRHU.
