The Department of Clinical Research, Swami Rama Himalayan University, organized an educational visit for M.Sc. Clinical Research first-year students to the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun, on 28 June 2025. Ten students, accompanied by faculty member Dr. Manisha Sharma, attended a seminar focused on herbal research, traditional medicine, and scientific publishing.
The visit aimed to expose students to real-world advancements in Ayurvedic and herbal sciences and their integration with modern research methodologies. The seminar opened with a welcome address by Dr. S. Farooq, President of Himalaya Drug Company, who highlighted the importance of scientific validation in herbal research.
A significant highlight was the release of the latest edition of UJPAH (Phytochemistry and Ayurvedic Heights), followed by a presentation by Dr. Himmat Singh, Chief Scientist at CSIR-IIP, Dehradun. He explained the journal’s scope in promoting peer-reviewed research in phytochemistry, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology.
Other eminent speakers included Dr. Arun Kumar Tripathi, who discussed the role of Panchakarma, naturopathy, and innovations like blue light therapy; Dr. Swarnlata Saraf, who shared insights on intellectual property rights, nanotechnology, and sustainability; and Prof. Shailendra Saraf, who delivered a keynote on quantitative validation in Ayurveda.
Dr. Durgesh Pant, Director General of UCOST, emphasized the potential of Uttarakhand’s biodiversity and encouraged students to explore local research and entrepreneurship. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. I.P. Saxena.
The students also visited the Regional Science Centre at UCOST, further enriching their experience. Overall, the visit offered a comprehensive understanding of herbal science, scientific publishing, and innovative therapeutic technologies, inspiring students toward careers in research and scientific communication.
