The Department of Ophthalmology, SRHU, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program under the Glaucoma India Education Program (GIEP) on 26th April 2025. Held at the B.C. Roy Auditorium, the event was conducted in collaboration with the Glaucoma Society of India (GSI) and the Uttarakhand State Ophthalmological Society (UKSOS). This initiative aimed to strengthen clinical understanding and promote updated practices in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.
The program attracted over 150 participants, including senior faculty members, postgraduate students, junior doctors, and practicing ophthalmologists from various institutions. The event commenced with a dignified inaugural session, featuring the ceremonial lamp lighting and welcome addresses by university dignitaries, setting the tone for a day of immersive academic exchange.
Throughout the day, distinguished glaucoma specialists from across the country delivered high-impact lectures across four scientific sessions. These sessions covered vital aspects of glaucoma care, including diagnostic techniques such as tonometry, gonioscopy, central corneal thickness measurement, and optic disc evaluation. Interpretation skills were further enhanced through focused discussions on visual field analysis and OCT imaging.
The CME also provided valuable updates on current medical and surgical interventions for glaucoma. Participants engaged deeply with topics like trabeculectomy, advanced surgical options, and the management of secondary glaucomas. The sessions were marked by interactive panel discussions that offered diverse clinical perspectives and encouraged collaborative learning among attendees.
Case-based learning modules and a concluding quiz added a dynamic and engaging dimension to the academic experience, reinforcing key takeaways from the sessions. The program concluded with a valedictory session and a vote of thanks, reflecting the department’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and community eye health. The CME served as a vital platform for young ophthalmologists and postgraduate students to boost their confidence and clinical competency in managing glaucoma cases effectively.
