The School of Science & Technology (SST) organized a five-day workshop on “Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking” from April 29 to May 3, 2025, offering students a robust blend of theoretical insights and practical experience in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. The workshop was led by Mr. Faby Mathew from Excain Ltd. and coordinated by Dr. Anupama Mishra, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. With 64 participants, the workshop focused on building strong foundational knowledge while also introducing advanced hacking and protection techniques.
Each day was dedicated to a key cybersecurity theme—ranging from networking and Linux fundamentals to ethical hacking, system vulnerability, and advanced cyber-attack simulations. The sessions were structured to foster active learning, combining expert lectures with practical labs. Participants worked with real-world tools such as Kali Linux, Metasploit, Nmap, Wireshark, and Burp Suite, applying their learning in simulated scenarios that reflected real cyber threats and defense mechanisms.
Through this hands-on format, students explored crucial topics like footprinting, scanning, system exploitation, and web application vulnerabilities. The workshop not only sharpened technical skills but also emphasized ethical responsibility in the realm of cybersecurity. The interactive environment helped build confidence, fostered curiosity, and encouraged team-based problem-solving.
By the end of the workshop, participants gained both the competence to handle cybersecurity tools and a deeper understanding of the ethical frameworks guiding the domain. It served as a valuable platform for aspiring ethical hackers and security professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and mindset required for safeguarding digital spaces in an increasingly connected world.
