HSMS Students Gain Budget Insights from Expert-Led Guest Lecture
On Saturday, 22nd March 2025, the Himalayan School of Management Studies (HSMS) at Swami Rama Himalayan University organized a guest lecture on “Budget Analysis 2025,” aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of the latest Union Budget and its wider economic implications. A total of 58 students from MBA II, BBA II, and B.Com II semesters participated in the session, held at the Multi-Activity Room, HSMS.
The lecture began at 2:30 PM with a welcome address that underscored the importance of budget literacy for future managers and commerce professionals. Dr. Badri Singh Bhandari, Professor of Practice at UPES Dehradun, served as the resource person and delivered a detailed yet accessible analysis of the Union Budget 2025. His presentation focused on key policy announcements, sector-wise allocations, fiscal deficit management, and the broader economic roadmap outlined in the budget.
The objective of the session was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world economic practices. Students were introduced to budget fundamentals such as capital expenditure, GST collections, tax reforms, and government subsidies. Dr. Bhandari’s lucid explanation helped students grasp the practical significance of budget proposals in areas like business, agriculture, employment, and digital transformation.
As a prelude to the session, HSMS conducted a Budget Prediction Competition on 30th January 2025, encouraging students to forecast budget trends. The winners were announced during the lecture. Ms. Kanika from BBA IV Semester secured the 1st position, followed jointly by Madhav Bhatia, Yukti Soni, Priya Negi, and Krishna from B.Com II Semester in the 2nd position, while Ms. Gracy Kataria of B.Com IV Semester secured the 3rd position. All winners were felicitated in front of their peers, celebrating their analytical acumen.
The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A segment. Students raised pertinent questions on the impact of the budget on start-ups and MSMEs, changes in income tax provisions, and green economy investments. Dr. Bhandari addressed each query with real-life insights, inspiring students to think critically about fiscal policies.
The session successfully enhanced students’ understanding of budget processes and encouraged them to connect classroom theories to national financial developments. It also highlighted the importance of informed citizenship and proactive participation in economic discourse—key qualities for future leaders in business and management.
