Guest Session on Corporate Grooming by Legal and Corporate Expert

On Thursday, 7th November 2024, the Himalayan School of Management Studies (HSMS) at Swami Rama Himalayan University organized a highly engaging and informative guest lecture on the topic of “Corporate Grooming.” The session was conducted at KLT-3 and was attended by 34 students from the first and third semesters of the MBA program. The resource person for the event was Mr. G. Gehani, a seasoned Company Secretary, Corporate Lawyer at the Delhi High Court, and former Senior Vice President of Punj Group. With a wealth of over three decades of corporate and legal experience, Mr. Gehani brought deep insights into the world of professional etiquette and leadership presence.

Dr. Gargi Pant Shukla, the convener of the session, welcomed the speaker and students, setting the stage for an engaging and meaningful discussion. The primary aim of the session was to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by familiarizing students with the essential aspects of corporate grooming, personal branding, and workplace conduct. Mr. Gehani emphasized the importance of professional appearance, proper business communication, and maintaining ethical conduct in a corporate setting. He elaborated on the nuances of dressing appropriately for different business occasions, writing effective and respectful emails, and following decorum in meetings and day-to-day interactions at the workplace.

The lecture also shed light on interpersonal skills, emphasizing punctuality, collaboration, and respect for diversity in a corporate environment. Mr. Gehani highlighted how personal branding and effective networking play a critical role in career progression. Drawing from his extensive experience, he narrated real-life case studies and examples that made the session both practical and relatable for the students. He also pointed out common mistakes that fresh graduates tend to make and advised strategies to avoid them, especially in interviews and the early stages of their careers.

The students actively participated in the session and took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarity on various aspects of corporate behavior. The interactive format of the lecture encouraged discussions on real-life scenarios, helping students connect theoretical learning with practical implications. Many students sought advice on how to make a positive impression during internships and professional engagements.

The session significantly enhanced the students’ understanding of corporate grooming standards and professional expectations. It boosted their confidence and prepared them to navigate the corporate world with greater awareness and readiness. By focusing on communication, conduct, and personal discipline, the lecture reinforced the importance of soft skills and emotional intelligence in leadership and career success. For MBA students gearing up for internships and placements, this guest lecture proved to be a timely and transformative learning experience.
