National Conference Explores Innovations in Assessment and Evaluation of Nursing Education
The Himalayan College of Nursing, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), successfully hosted a two-day National Conference on “Assessment and Evaluation in Nursing Education” from June 30 to July 1, 2025 in hybrid mode. The event was led by Dr. Sanchita Pugazhendi, Principal & Organizing Chairperson, and Dr. Rajkumari Sylvia Devi, Organizing Secretary, and was meticulously planned and executed with the support of faculty and postgraduate nursing students.
The conference aimed to strengthen the competencies of nursing educators and students by providing deeper insights into evidence-based assessment practices. Key themes included formative and summative assessments, item analysis, oral examinations, OSCE/OSPE methods, clinical evaluation, educational portfolios, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence in evaluation processes.
A total of 98 delegates participated in the event, with 47 attending in person and 51 joining virtually. The audience included M.Sc. Nursing students and faculty members from reputed institutions across India, creating a rich platform for collaborative learning and professional dialogue.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Vijendra D. Chauhan, Director General of Academic Development, SRHU, who underscored the evolving landscape of assessment in healthcare education. He urged participants to embrace innovative, learner-focused evaluation techniques and appreciated the organizing team’s dedication to academic excellence.
The conference featured expert-led sessions, a scientific lecture on women’s health, and a poster competition, all of which were well received. The event concluded with a valedictory session led by Dr. Kathleen M. McKeehan, Nursing Advisor, SRHU, who praised the quality, depth, and practical relevance of the sessions. The conference successfully achieved its objective of promoting best practices and innovation in nursing education.
