Session I: (10:30AM-12:30PM)

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, an academic constituent unit of Swami Rama Himalayan University, organized an enriching daylong session with Prof. Shahid Ansari on 15th November 2025. The program was designed to provide students and faculty with expert insights into career planning, professional development, and research opportunities in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The event commenced with a warm welcome and felicitation of the esteemed speaker, followed by an address by the Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Preeti Kothiyal, who emphasized the value of academic engagement with distinguished national leaders in pharmacy education and research. Prof. Ansari delivered an illuminating lecture on “Career Paths and Opportunities in Pharmaceutical Sciences.” He elaborated on the wide-ranging and evolving roles available to pharmacy graduates across the pharmaceutical industry, academic institutions, regulatory bodies, research organizations, hospitals, and government sectors also with the essential attributes required by the pharmacy graduate for each role. He highlighted the importance of higher education, continuous skill development, interdisciplinary learning, and attaining globally recognized professional certifications. Students were also oriented about various scholarship schemes, competitive examinations, and effective strategies for building a strong professional profile. An interactive session followed, allowing students to seek guidance on career planning, emerging industry trends, and international opportunities in pharmaceutical sciences.

Session II :(2:30PM-3:45Pm)

The subsequent session was focussed for faculty members, Prof. Ansari spoke on “Extramural Projects – How and Where to Apply.” He provided a comprehensive overview of national and international funding agencies, key elements of successful proposal writing, evaluation parameters, and the role of collaborations in strengthening research outcomes. Faculty participants discussed potential project ideas and received valuable recommendations for improving research productivity and enhancing institutional research culture. Prof Ansari guided each faculty on the potential area/topic on which they can draft project for extramural fundings. He gave topics to each faculty on which they will be drafting a project for specific funding agencies viz.

  • Bioassay Guided fractionation and Inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines for asthmatic potential from Medicinal Plant.
  • Synthesis and evaluation of novel manic basis as anticholinesterase inhibitors.
  • Development and evaluation of plant extract loaded nano emulsion for anti-diabetic activity and diabetic foot ulcer management.
  • Development and evaluation of ethosomal gel for treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Phytochemical and pharmacological in vivo and in vitro activity of some medicinal plants.

All faculties were directed to submit the proposal for discussion, refinement and finalization during Prof Ansari’s next visit in February 2nd week 2026.He asked all to mandatorily publish their PG dissertation work (01 review and 1-2 research articles) as well as Ph.D. work (2Review and 2-3 research articles). He also shared his mobile number with all faculty members for any queries and further discussion, if required.

A dedicated one-on-one interaction session was also conducted, during which faculty members discussed their ongoing and proposed research activities with Prof. Ansari. His tailored guidance on research planning, publication strategies, and avenues for collaborative work was highly appreciated.

The Guest Lecture by Prof. Shahid H. Ansari proved immensely beneficial for both students and faculty of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His expertise and thoughtful guidance added significant value to the academic ecosystem. The school extends its sincere gratitude to Prof. Ansari for his valuable contribution. The programme concluded successfully with highly positive feedback from all participants.

International Endowed Chair Professor

Prof Rakesh Kumar

Prof Rakesh Kumar is the Founder and President of the Breast Cancer in Young Women Foundation (USA), dedicated to vaddressing the distinct issues affecting young women with breast cancer. He also serves as the International Endowed Chair Professor at the Cancer Research Institute of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences. Additionally, he holds adjunct professorships at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr Kumar earned his Ph.D. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1984 and began his research career at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in January 1986. From 1988 to 2017, he held various academic and leadership positions —including faculty member, tenured professor, distinguished professor, endowed chair, department chair, and research leader—at esteemed institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. From 2017 to 2022, he served as the National Chair for Cancer Research for the Government of India and as a distinguished professor, continuing his innovative work in breast cancer research.

With nearly 40 years of research and professional experience, Dr. Kumar has made conceptual contributions to the field of cancer research (h-index 108, citations >50,000). He has authored over 325 peer-reviewed publications, edited or co-edited nine books, and delivered 290 invited lectures worldwide. His work has been featured on the covers of 18 major cancer journals and has been highlighted in institutional research reports of the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Kumar has guided 67 trainees throughout his career. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple leading cancer journals and has served on the editorial boards of 21 top cancer journals. His global reputation is further demonstrated by his participation in about 100 peer-review panels for cancer research funding in the US and internationally over the past 28 years.

Dr. Kumar's innovative research has earned him numerous prestigious honors, including the Hinkle Society Faculty Award at Penn State University (1994), the Dalla/Fort Worth Living Legend Faculty Achievement Award in Basic Sciences (2004), the Ranbaxy Research Award (2006), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Indian Scientists in Cancer Research (2013), among others. Dr. Kumar's pioneering research continues to have a profound influence on the fields of oncology and breast cancer, opening up new opportunities for biomedical scientists and trainees worldwide.
