The School of Science & Technology (SST), Swami Rama Himalayan University, organized an insightful session on “Language and Communication: Personal Presentation Etiquette” for BCA second-year students on 08th May 2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Seema Madhok, Assistant Professor, CPACE, SRHU. Blending theory with practical demonstrations, the session aimed to help students understand the essentials of personal presentation and effective communication in academic and professional settings.
Dr. Madhok introduced the three foundational pillars of professional presence—visual, verbal, and behavioral etiquette. The visual component addressed dress code, grooming, and posture; verbal etiquette covered tone, clarity of speech, and avoidance of filler words; and behavioral etiquette focused on eye contact, appropriate hand gestures, and active listening. She emphasized how non-verbal cues support verbal communication and how subtle changes in posture and expression can significantly influence audience perception.
The session included a variety of interactive activities such as role-play scenarios for mock interviews, a virtual presentation simulation for understanding digital communication nuances, and group case studies analyzing real-world etiquette mistakes. These practical engagements enabled students to apply the concepts learned in real-time, reinforcing their understanding of professional communication standards.
With 50 students in attendance, the session proved to be a valuable experience. Participants reported increased awareness of both physical and virtual presentation norms, learned how to manage Q&A sessions with confidence, and developed sensitivity towards cultural and audience diversity. Overall, the session enhanced the students’ ability to communicate with clarity, authenticity, and professionalism in varied settings.
