A three-day workshop on Drone Technology was conducted from 3rd to 5th September 2024 at the Himalayan School of Science and Technology (HSST), Swami Rama Himalayan University. The workshop commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting attended by experts Mr. Ashish Mishra (Founder, EXCAIN LLP, Dehradun), Mr. Amit Rai (IIT BHU), Mr. Anant Pandey (IIT BHU), Mr. Sunny Patel (Drone Pilot), Dr. Pramod Kumar, Principal, HSST, and faculty members. The event was attended by 112 participants.
The workshop was designed to equip students with the essential skills to utilize the new Drone Lab effectively. The sessions covered the significance of drone technology across various industries, the history and evolution of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and the different types and applications of drones. Participants gained a thorough understanding of drone components and engaged in hands-on assembly of basic drones. Emphasis was placed on safety protocols and relevant aviation regulations to ensure responsible and legal operation.
On the second day, students learned about GPS and autonomous flight modes, drone programming using platforms such as ArduPilot and DJI SDK, and optimized drone cameras for academic projects. They conducted a hands-on mapping exercise within the campus and planned simulated real-world drone missions in teams.
The third day focused on drone applications in agriculture, construction, and environmental monitoring. Experts shared insights on real-world challenges in these sectors. The workshop concluded with a final drone show where teams demonstrated their designed drones.
The workshop successfully provided students with foundational and practical knowledge of drone technology, enabling them to operate drones responsibly and make the most of the newly established Drone Lab.
