The Department of Clinical Research at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University, conducted an insightful session titled “Understanding Literature Review using Databases: Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed” on January 28, 2025, at the Training and Development Cell, HIMS. The session was attended by 25 students and was led by Professor Yogendra Singh, who provided an in-depth understanding of literature search strategies, reference management, and web page optimization techniques relevant to academic research.
Professor Singh introduced students to the functionalities and advantages of key academic databases—Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed—demonstrating how to access high-quality scholarly articles, track citations, and set up research alerts. Emphasis was placed on the use of Boolean operators and advanced filters to refine search results and ensure the retrieval of relevant and credible sources. In addition to literature review skills, the session also covered essential elements of web page optimization, including search engine optimization (SEO), keyword targeting, mobile responsiveness, and technical enhancements, aimed at improving online content visibility and performance.
The integration of database search proficiency with digital optimization strategies empowered participants to strengthen their academic research capabilities and digital presence. The session successfully enabled students to approach literature reviews methodically and confidently, ensuring their future research is grounded in comprehensive and reliable sources.
