The Department of Clinical Research, HIMS, SRHU, organized an industrial visit to the Himalayan Drug Company, Dehradun, on 04 May 2026 for MSc Clinical Research students. A total of 14 students participated in the visit, which was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ahmadulla Shariff and Dr. Nikku Yadav. The primary objective was to provide practical exposure to pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and industry practices.
Founded in 1930 by Mr. M Manal, the Himalayan Drug Company is a globally recognized pharmaceutical and herbal healthcare organization known for integrating Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific research. Presently, his son Mr. M. A. Manal is the chairman. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), quality assurance (QA), quality control (QC), and regulatory documentation frameworks essential to the pharmaceutical industry.
Students observed key manufacturing processes and developed an understanding of standard operating procedures, compliance requirements, and the critical role of QA/QC in ensuring product safety and efficacy. The visit effectively bridged the gap between theoretical learning and industrial application, enhancing students’ practical knowledge of pharmaceutical workflows.
A major highlight of the visit was an interactive session with the Hon’ble President of the company, Dr. S. Farooq, who shared his perspectives on challenges in maintaining GMP compliance, emerging trends in pharmaceutical research and development, and essential skill sets required for careers in the pharmaceutical sector. He also discussed the role of researchers in drug development, along with internship opportunities and professional growth pathways for aspiring clinical research professionals.
The industrial visit proved to be highly informative and enriching, providing students with real-world exposure to pharmaceutical operations and broadening their understanding of career opportunities in the sector. The successful organization of this visit reflects SRHU’s commitment to experiential learning and strengthening industry–academia collaboration in clinical research and pharmaceutical sciences.
The department sincerely acknowledges the support of SRHU management and extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. S. Farooq and the team at the Himalaya Drug Company for facilitating this insightful visit.
