Admission Intake: 3 Seats
Eligibility: Admissions to all postgraduate super-specialty programmes are conducted nationally through the competent authority as prescribed by the Statutory Council (NMC) and as per Government of India Gazette notifications, based on NEET-SS merit.
Neonatology is a super speciality of Paediatrics and deals with all the problems of newborn till 28 days of life. However, NICU graduates are followed up till 2-3 years of age.

The Department of Neonatology envisions to become a regional and international centre of excellence in quality services for neonatal care and an apex institute for training in neonatology in close collaboration with Obstetrics Department promoting research & fugal innovations.

It envisages giving state-of-art neonatal care, through compassionate and family Centered approach, using evidence-based interventions and futuristic technology, with the goals of best short and long term outcomes along with intact survival. Through national and international collaborations, it aims to provide the best learning experience to the trainees and groom them for analytic, scientific, and innovative approach in neonatology.

About The Department
The Neonatology department has 40 bedded NICU, with 22 level-3 care beds. It has state of the art equipment like high frequency ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, aEEG monitor, point of care ultrasound and echocardiography, video laryngoscope, laminar flow, incubators, osmometry, transcutaneous bilirubinometer, etc.
The department has expertise in advanced neonatal procedures such as central line insertion, intercostal drainage, peritoneal dialysis, double-volume exchange transfusion, and invasive blood pressure monitoring. A state-of-the-art dedicated Advanced Neonatal Transport Ambulance (ANTA) is available. Facilities for a human milk bank and intact cord resuscitation are under development.
The department is actively involved in postgraduate teaching and training. An ongoing DM Neonatology programme is conducted with three seats per year. Additionally, an upcoming Fellowship in Neonatal Nursing, certified by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), is planned to further strengthen specialized neonatal nursing training.
The department regularly conducts neonatology training programmes for healthcare providers and is actively engaged in research and innovation aimed at improving future neonatal care.
Facilities available for treatment of Neonatal Diseases
We work closely with Obstetrics Department and cater to extremely low birth weight infants (birth weight less than 1 kg), birth asphyxia (babies who haven’t cried after birth), congenital malformations (structural abnormalities at birth requiring surgical intervention), jaundice (requiring phototherapy or double volume exchange transfusion), seizures (continuous electrographic monitoring and treatment), respiratory, cardiac and renal failure due to any reason. Expertise of qualified team of Paediatric Surgeons is available to manage all neonatal surgical conditions. Doctors gets experiential learning on best practices on perinatal care namely neonatal resuscitation, lactation management, safe practices at birth , mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic, aggressive nutrition support, transportation of high risk babies and follow up care for high risk babies with ROP , hearing screening and neurodevelopmental etc.
