The Fellowship Programmes offer a unique blend of comprehensive clinical training with an access to a diverse patient population. With Interdisciplinary- Multidisciplinary approach we strive to make HIMS an ideal place to train future leaders. Clinical experience forms the cornerstone for fellowship programmes.

The Fellowship Programmes combines independent learning with modern clinical training, hands-on experience, faculty mentoring, didactic instruction and research opportunities. The programme offers a variety of options for interested Fellows, such as, focus on clinical expertise, research, sub-speciality areas or multidisciplinary proficiency.

Critical Care Medicine
Fellowship in critical care medicine is designed to develop registered and graduate medical professionals into critical care practitioners with a passion for clinical care, education, and research to become tomorrow's leaders in critical care medicine. The objective of the programme is to train physicians through excellence in patient care, scholarship, innovation and leadership acquiring sufficient clinical and technical experience to handle complex clinical problems. This revolves around three major components i.e. Supervised training with clinical experience, Self directed learning and Assessment. The programme helps in the development of diagnostic, problem solving and technical skills and the acquisition of attitudes appropriate for a specialist in intensive care. Students will gain knowledge on pathophysiology, diagnosis & treatment of a series of disease processes. The Fellowship programme is backed by a team of highly skilled, efficient and trained specialists providing unmatched care along with well equipped latest machinery including Ventilators, Echocardiography, Ultrasound machine and ABG (in-house) and latest invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques including Cardiac Output Monitors. Endoscopic procedures and Bronchoscope procedures are also available. The department is supported by Laboratory services, Imaging services, Pharmacy services and Blood bank services round the clock.

Neonatology
The Fellowship in Neonatology is designed to transform a MD Paediatrics qualified doctor to a competent, comprehensive neonatal care provider with well ingrained humane values. The program facilitates fellow to realise & blossom his idea & creativity. It addresses all the domains of learning training, planned to encourage global subject knowledge, hands on experience & simulators based training .To ensure better future, it is planned to bring in a definite behavioural change in the learner by making counselling and mentoring aspart of curriculum. The case based learning & discussions with open mind will lay the foundation of clinical decision making. It will also give a platform to interact freely & scientifically with both national & international faculties, in addition to the inhouse mentoring by the faculties who have wide ranging plethora of experience of training &mentoring. The department has 30 neonatal beds & provides all the levels of neonatal care including Care of Extremely Low birth weight neonates, Advance Mechanical Ventilation, Total Parenteral Nutrition, Exchange Transfusion, Ultrasonography, Echocardiography, Neonatal Transport Mobile Ambulance etc. Neonatology also provides perioperative care for the neonates undergoing major surgical procedures. The Himalayan hospital has well developed Laboratory, Imaging, Blood transfusion, &Pharmacy services, which are available round the clock. The Neonatology has adequate workload, takes care of both intramural & outborn neonates. It acts as a referral centre for the neonatal care in the state of Uttarakhand & the nearby region. The Neonatology has a vision &is proactively putting efforts to make it as a model nodal neonatal centre of excellence in the region. The two years fellowship program, in addition will facilitate in development of attributes needed for obtaining a faculty position in the Neonatology.

Paediatrics Intensive Care
The Fellowship is designed to equip the candidate with specialized knowledge and skills to excel in paediatric critical care, to provide exceptional, comprehensive and compassionate medical care to the young patients. This one year program will offer training in advanced mechanical ventilation, POCUS, Exposure to simulation based training in emergency pediatrics and intensive care, Case based discussion, seminars and journal clubs.This fellowship will give opportunities in research both national and international levels and will also provide a doorway for international fellowships and training for interested and deserved candidates. Himalayan Hospital is equipped with 10 bedded PICU with pediatric emergency services to train MD/DNB qualified Paediatricians in better clinical decision making abilities and required skills. in sick perioperative, neurological, respiratory, cardiac, renal and oncological patients. Our Hospital has fully developed laboratory, blood bank (services including plasmapheresis, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and pharmacy services which are available round the clock.

PDCC - Radiology (Interventional radiology/Onco-radiology)
Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences is accepting applications for one-year Fellowship programme in Intervention Radiology for current academic session (2024-25). This programme offers a unique opportunity for a post MD radiologist to enter a structured and certified fellowship course of 12 months duration. During the training period , fellows will go through a rotational programme commencing with training in initial work up, diagnostic evaluation, procedural work and post procedure care. The period will be supervised by highly competent Faculty and mentors with a vast experience in vascular imaging and intervention Radiology. The trainee will have an exposure of a wide spectrum of available modalities in Intervention including USG and CT guided procedures, MR/USG and CT vascular imaging etc which will make the trainee proficient in handling complex imaging techniques and ability to interpret intricate imaging examinations. Dedicated guided research will be encouraged during the training programme and devoted time, departmental library, e-resources etc will be made available. The Radiology department of Himalayan hospital has well developed, state of the art imaging facilities with an angio suit, fluoroscopy room, 6 USG facilities,128 slice CT scanner and a 1.5 Tesla MR unit, thus offering ample opportunities to have hands on exposure for both diagnostic and Intervention procedures. In addition the trainee will attend daily interventional rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, departmental journal clubs, in service interactive teachings & multi-specialty clinics which are run in the department. With an environment of combined independent learning and supervised modern clinical training the programme ensures better development of skills in the field of Intervention

Rheumatology

International Endowed Chair Professor

Prof Rakesh Kumar

Prof Rakesh Kumar is the Founder and President of the Breast Cancer in Young Women Foundation (USA), dedicated to vaddressing the distinct issues affecting young women with breast cancer. He also serves as the International Endowed Chair Professor at the Cancer Research Institute of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences. Additionally, he holds adjunct professorships at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr Kumar earned his Ph.D. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1984 and began his research career at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in January 1986. From 1988 to 2017, he held various academic and leadership positions —including faculty member, tenured professor, distinguished professor, endowed chair, department chair, and research leader—at esteemed institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. From 2017 to 2022, he served as the National Chair for Cancer Research for the Government of India and as a distinguished professor, continuing his innovative work in breast cancer research.

With nearly 40 years of research and professional experience, Dr. Kumar has made conceptual contributions to the field of cancer research (h-index 108, citations >50,000). He has authored over 325 peer-reviewed publications, edited or co-edited nine books, and delivered 290 invited lectures worldwide. His work has been featured on the covers of 18 major cancer journals and has been highlighted in institutional research reports of the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Kumar has guided 67 trainees throughout his career. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple leading cancer journals and has served on the editorial boards of 21 top cancer journals. His global reputation is further demonstrated by his participation in about 100 peer-review panels for cancer research funding in the US and internationally over the past 28 years.

Dr. Kumar's innovative research has earned him numerous prestigious honors, including the Hinkle Society Faculty Award at Penn State University (1994), the Dalla/Fort Worth Living Legend Faculty Achievement Award in Basic Sciences (2004), the Ranbaxy Research Award (2006), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Indian Scientists in Cancer Research (2013), among others. Dr. Kumar's pioneering research continues to have a profound influence on the fields of oncology and breast cancer, opening up new opportunities for biomedical scientists and trainees worldwide.
