The Department of Nursing, Himalayan Hospital, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), organized a Regional Level Workshop on “Empowering Nurses for Safe Patient Care” on 09 May 2026 at Charak Hall, Himalayan Hospital, as part of Nurses Week Celebration 2026 under the theme “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
The workshop focused on strengthening patient safety practices, nursing leadership, communication skills, and clinical decision-making among nursing professionals and students. The programme commenced with registration, pre-test assessment, and an introductory session on the objectives of the workshop.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Brig. R. S. Saini, Dy. Medical Superintendent, Himalayan Hospital, along with distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Rajesh K. Sharma, President, TNAI Uttarakhand Branch and Professor & HOD, Critical Care Nursing, Himalayan College of Nursing; Dr. Brig. D. C. Joshi, Dy. Medical Superintendent; Dr. Abhishek Kandwal, Dy. Medical Superintendent, CCRC; Dr. Loveneesh Kumar, Clinical Safety Officer and Professor, ENT Department; and Ms. Reena Habil Singh, Nursing Superintendent, Himalayan Hospital.
A total of 45 registered participants attended the workshop, including 35 staff nurses from Himalayan Hospital, 02 faculty members from other institutions, and 10 nursing students from various institutions. In addition to the registered delegates, nearly 20 nursing professionals from Himalayan Hospital also attended the scientific sessions, reflecting enthusiastic participation and strong professional interest towards patient safety and nursing
empowerment initiatives.
The scientific sessions focused on important aspects of nursing empowerment and patient safety. Ms. Reena Habil Singh, Nursing Superintendent, Himalayan Hospital, delivered a session on “Understanding Nurse Empowerment. Ms. Jaibunnisha, Dy. Nursing Superintendent, Himalayan Hospital, conducted a session on “Building Confidence & Leadership,” highlighting professional accountability and leadership qualities in nursing practice.
Dr. Rajesh K. Sharma, President TNAI Uttarakhand Branch, conducted the session on “Patient Safety Basics,” focusing on prevention of clinical errors and strengthening patient safety culture. Lt. Col. Neeta Rawat (Retd.), Professor, CIMS&R, delivered a session on “Clinical Decision-Making,” while Ms. Chetna Gautam, Principal, CIMS&R, conducted the session on “Communication that Saves Lives (SBAR),” emphasizing the importance of structured communication in improving patient outcomes and reducing clinical risks.
During the valedictory session, it was highlighted that the workshop marked one of the first regional-level nursing workshops organized by the Department of Nursing, reflecting its commitment towards academic excellence, professional empowerment, and safe patient care practices.
The workshop concluded with post-test evaluation, feedback session, and active participant interaction. The Department of Nursing expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, participants, and organizing members for the successful conduct of the programme.
