The Department of Critical Care Medicine, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), in collaboration with the Dehradun Branch of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) and Teleflex, successfully organized a workshop on Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Cannulation.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal of HIMS, Dr. Sharif, with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana. The event was inaugurated by the Principal of HIMS, Dr. Sharif, who highlighted the importance of skill-based training and continuous professional development in patient care. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Dr. Sonika Agarwal, Dr. Sonu Sama, Dr. Mandeep, and Dr. Ankit Agarwal.
A total of 50 participants attended the workshop, including consultants, resident doctors, nurse practitioners, and ICU nurses from various specialties.
The scientific program commenced with a welcome address and introduction by Dr. Sonika Agarwal, Head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, HIMS. This was followed by an informative lecture by Dr. Mandeep Singh Khalsa, Consultant Pediatric Hemato-Oncologist, who discussed patient selection criteria along with the advantages and disadvantages of PICC line insertion.
Subsequently, Dr. Ankit Agarwal, Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, AIIMS Rishikesh, delivered a detailed session on PICC catheter insertion techniques, highlighting best practices and procedural nuances. The next lecture was presented by Ms. Priyanka, PICC Nurse and Trainer, who elaborated on the various complications associated with PICC lines and their prevention and management.
Following the academic sessions, participants attended a hands-on training workshop after lunch. The practical session was conducted by Ms. Priyanka, while ultrasound-guided vascular access techniques were demonstrated by Dr. Richa Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRR), Dehradun.
The workshop provided participants with valuable theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for the safe and effective insertion and management of PICC lines in critically ill patients. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of certificates to all participants.
