The Medical Education Unit of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS),in collaboration with skill and simulation centre and the trained sim trainers from Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology conducted a multidisciplinary and interprofessional Simulation workshop on July 9 and 10, 2026. The workshop focused on simulation scenario design, debriefing techniques, assessment methods, communication, teamwork, and the integration of simulation into competency-based medical education. Through interactive sessions and hands-on training, participants enhanced their skills in delivering effective simulation-based learning.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Ashok Kumar Deorari, Pro Vice Chancellor, SRHU, emphasized the transformative role of simulation in clinical practice and medical education. He highlighted that simulation provides a safe environment for students to develop clinical competence, critical thinking, decision-making, communication, and teamwork, while encouraging active and experiential learning.
Dr. Vijayanand, Senior Consultant Neonatologist and Pediatrician, Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad, underscored the importance of simulation in bridging the gap between classroom teaching and real-life clinical practice. He noted that simulation improves patient safety, builds confidence, and equips healthcare professionals with essential clinical and teamwork skills.
Dr. A. Shariff, Dean, HIMS, delivered an interactive lecture on Virtual Reality in Healthcare and gamification in medical education, followed by a live demonstration showcasing how these innovative technologies can enhance learner engagement, strengthen clinical skills training, and create immersive, simulation-based learning experiences.
Dr. Renu Dhasmana, Principal (Administration) HIMS, highlighted that simulation-based learning is an integral part of modern medical education, enabling faculty to adopt innovative teaching methods and enhance the quality of clinical training.
The workshop featured expert-led lectures, hands-on skill stations, group activities, and simulation exercises, providing participants with practical experience in designing and facilitating simulation sessions. It concluded with participant engagement in developing learning objectives, creating scenarios and provided feedback, reaffirming SRHU’s commitment to excellence and innovation in medical education.
