The Nasha Mukt Hostel Committee of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) organized a Drug Awareness Program on 11 April 2026 at the School of Science and Technology to educate students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free campus environment. The programme witnessed the participation of 72 students and seven committee members.
During the session, Dr. Nitika Kimothi, member of the committee, explained the concept of drugs as chemical substances that influence the physiological and psychological functions of the human body. While certain drugs serve essential medical purposes, she highlighted that their misuse and non-medical consumption can lead to severe health, social, and ethical consequences. She also emphasized that substance abuse has become a growing public health concern affecting individuals and communities.
Dr. Priya Ranjan Avinash, Chairperson of the committee, spoke about the impact of drugs on brain functioning and explained how addiction can develop rapidly. She noted that young people are particularly vulnerable due to curiosity, peer pressure, and lack of awareness. Students were encouraged to make informed choices, resist peer influence, and adopt healthy lifestyles.
An interactive quiz session on myths and facts related to alcohol consumption further engaged participants and helped clarify misconceptions.
The programme concluded with remarks by Dr. Nikku Yadav, Member Secretary, who urged students to remain vigilant and support efforts toward maintaining a healthy, drug-free campus.
