BCA Students Gain Practical Insight into Wastewater Treatment at SRHU

Published on: May 6, 2025

On 6th May 2025, students of BCA – II Semester (Section C) from the School of Science & Technology (SST), Swami Rama Himalayan University, participated in an educational field visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located within the university campus. As part of the Environmental Studies curriculum, the visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to sustainable environmental practices, particularly in wastewater treatment and management.

The STP at SRHU plays a vital role in treating sewage generated by the hospital, academic buildings, hostels, and residential areas on campus. During the visit, students observed the entire treatment process, including the primary sedimentation tank, aeration chambers, secondary sedimentation tank, and sand/activated charcoal filters. They compared the physical characteristics of untreated and treated wastewater and engaged in discussions with facility staff to deepen their understanding of the plant’s operations.

Throughout the visit, students were actively involved—taking notes, asking questions, and capturing photographs for their assignments and future reference. The interactive nature of the experience allowed them to connect classroom concepts with real-world practices, enhancing their analytical thinking and environmental awareness.

With 50 students participating, the visit proved to be both educational and impactful. It reinforced key environmental concepts while highlighting the significance of sustainable practices in modern infrastructure. The field visit successfully bridged the gap between theory and practice, offering students a meaningful and memorable learning experience.
