The Department of Pathology at Swami Rama Himalayan University organized an illuminating guest lecture by Dr. Sukesh C. Nair, Professor at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, on August 10, 2024. Held under the academic theme “Hematology Insights: From Coagulation to Cytometry,” the session attracted around 120 enthusiastic delegates.
Dr. Nair’s lecture offered a deep dive into global hemostasis testing techniques, including ROTEM/TEG, Thrombin Generation Tests (TGT/TGA), and Clot Waveform Analysis (CWA). These advanced diagnostic tools are essential for clinicians and laboratories aiming to better understand and manage coagulation disorders.
He explained how these methodologies provide comprehensive insights into the clotting process, offering real-time data that can significantly influence patient care, particularly in critical care and surgical settings. By comparing conventional coagulation assays with newer dynamic testing models, Dr. Nair highlighted the practical benefits and limitations of each.
The lecture also addressed the clinical complexity of abnormal bleeding, focusing on the core questions of why, where, how, and when it occurs. Through this framework, he encouraged participants to approach bleeding disorders with a deeper clinical and laboratory-based understanding.
Dr. Nair concluded the session by reflecting on the hands-on workshop outcomes conducted earlier in the day. He responded to audience queries, clarified concepts, and provided strategies for maintaining high-quality coagulation testing—especially in labs with limited patient referrals or low testing frequency.
The guest lecture proved to be an enriching academic exchange, equipping attendees with advanced knowledge and practical tools to elevate the quality of coagulation diagnostics and patient care.
