Published on: January 21, 2025

The Department of Pathology at Swami Rama Himalayan University hosted a focused and insightful guest lecture on January 20, 2025, titled “Interpretation of Renal Biopsy – Morphology, Immunofluorescence & Electron Microscopy.” The session was delivered by Dr. Sant Prakash Kataria, Professor of Pathology at PGIMS, Rohtak.

Dr. Kataria shared his extensive expertise on renal biopsy interpretation, emphasizing the importance of adequacy criteria, sectioning, and processing techniques for kidney specimens. He discussed in detail the special stains used, including PAS, Silver Methenamine, and Trichrome, and explained their diagnostic value in identifying characteristic features of various glomerular, tubular, interstitial, and vascular lesions.

The lecture further highlighted the critical roles of immunofluorescence and electron microscopy in diagnosing and differentiating complex renal pathologies. Dr. Kataria’s session bridged theory with diagnostic practice, equipping attendees with practical knowledge to enhance diagnostic accuracy in nephropathology.

Around 15 participants attended the event, actively engaging in discussions and case-based learning during the session.

The lecture was a valuable academic enrichment opportunity, especially for postgraduate students and faculty, offering a deeper understanding of integrated renal biopsy interpretation using a multidisciplinary diagnostic lens.
