The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun (Jolly Grant), organized an insightful guest lecture by Dr. Deepak Kumar Rathore (PhD), Senior Research Scientist, THSTI, Faridabad on 3rd April at the B.C. Roy Auditorium. The theme of the lecture was Translational Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences, aimed at providing students and faculty with a deeper understanding of how laboratory research can be translated into real-world solutions. The program commenced with a warm welcome of Dr. Rathore. A welcome was extended as a token of respect and appreciation by Prof. Ganesh, marking a gracious beginning to the session.
Dr. Rathore delivered an engaging and informative lecture highlighting the concept of translational research, emphasizing how scientific discoveries can be transformed into practical applications for community benefit. He illustrated this effectively with the example of the COVID-19 vaccine, explaining its immunological response and how rapid research translation significantly benefited public health. He further elaborated on the role of the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) in bridging the gap between basic research and clinical application. He also guided students on how to enter the research field, the required skill sets, and the long-term benefits of pursuing a career in translational research.
The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, where students actively participated and raised various queries related to research, immunology, and career opportunities. Dr. Rathore addressed all questions comprehensively, motivating students and providing valuable insights into the research ecosystem. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Dean, SPS, who appreciated the valuable insights shared by Dr. Rathore. She also encouraged and motivated students to actively engage in such academic sessions, highlighting the importance of learning from eminent scientists and developing a strong listening and research-oriented approach.
Post tea break, a faculty interaction session was held in the Dean’s office. Dr. Rathore discussed various funding opportunities and shared strategies on how to secure research grants with faculty of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He also highlighted how THSTI can support institutions in obtaining funding for international conferences as well as collaborative research projects. Faculty members introduced themselves and presented their ongoing research work. Dr. Rathore encouraged faculty members to strengthen their research activities and emphasized the importance of establishing research excellence laboratories to enhance the chances of securing extramural funding from agencies such as ICMR, DST, and ANRF.
Overall, the event was a great success and significantly contributed to fostering a research-driven academic environment within the institution.
