Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun, marked a major milestone on June 6, 2025, with the inauguration of the newly upgraded Clinical Psychology facilities at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS). The event, held at the first floor of Block Two in Himalayan Hospital, introduced state-of-the-art Psychotherapy, Biofeedback, and Psychometric Laboratories, setting a new benchmark in mental healthcare and postgraduate training.
The inauguration ceremony began with the auspicious lighting of the Lamp of Knowledge and Service by SRHU President Dr. Vijay Dhasmana, at the feet of His Holiness Dr. Swami Rama. This symbolic act emphasized the institution’s enduring commitment to healing and academic excellence in mental health.
Guests were taken on a guided tour of the advanced labs. The Psychotherapy unit has been thoughtfully designed to ensure privacy and comfort, fostering an ideal therapeutic environment. The Biofeedback suite features modern equipment to monitor physiological responses in real time, allowing for more personalized interventions. The Psychometric lab includes sophisticated assessment tools to evaluate psychological parameters such as cognition, mood, and behavior, enhancing diagnostic accuracy.
Dr. Malini Srivastava, Head of the Department of Clinical Psychology, highlighted the department’s mission to expand access to quality psychological care and to combat the stigma associated with mental health. She credited her dedicated team — including faculty members Ms. Rashmi, Ms. Nikita, Ms. Mahjbin, and Ms. Shahna — for their role in bringing this vision to life. The facility will also serve as a crucial training ground for PDCP students like Sanker, Aariz, Nitika, and others.
Esteemed university leaders, including Dr. Prakash Keshaviah, Dr. Hem Chandra, Dr. Ashok Deorari, Lt Gen (Dr) Daljit Singh, and Dr. Maheshwari, shared insights on the transformative potential of the new facilities. Together, they reinforced SRHU’s holistic approach to healthcare, integrating mind and body, science and compassion — a true leap forward in mental health services and education.
