Himalayan School of Management Studies at Swami Rama Himalayan University Concluded Two Weeks Orientation by Bridging Academia with the Real World

A fortnight of rich experiences, learnings, and new friendships marked the end of the orientation program at the Himalayan School of Management Studies (HSMS) at Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU). HSMS wrapped up its two-week orientation program on 12th August that started on 1st August 2023. What stood out wasn’t just the schedule’s depth and diversity, but the harmony of traditional academic activities with modern industry insights.

Himanshu Shekhar Mishra, the prominent senior editor of political and current affairs at NDTV India, was the distinguished guest speaker at the concluding day of the event. In an era dominated by reels and tweets, he discussed the integral role of New IT Rules, drawing the spotlight onto the intertwined realms of social media and Public Policy. Talking about the importance of data protection in the era of digitalization Mishra emphasized, “Data, today, is more than mere numbers. It’s a narrative. Harnessing this narrative rightly can revolutionize governance and understanding the nuances will help the users leverage upon the opportunities the related fields can offer.”

HSMS alumni, Pranav Jadli, an Analyst with Corp Treasury Arthur J Gallagher & Co, and Shristi Jakhmola, Consultant at Grant Thornton – recounted their transformative journey from the classrooms of HSMS to the corporate corridors. They shared their experiences from tackling assignments and exams to now facing boardrooms and global challenges, their tales were both relatable and aspirational for the new students. Jadli, with a twinkle in his eye, remarked, “This campus is where dreams get wings.” Jakhmola added, “HSMS was my launchpad. Every challenge I faced here prepared me for the bigger ones in the corporate world.”

During the two weeks of the orientation program various activities were conducted for the students including campus tours, field trip, guest lecture by Dr. Saket Badola, IFS, Director of the Raja Ji Tiger Reserve, sports events, business plan competitions, cultural events, team building & fun activities by Younite club, to name a few. All these events were meticulously planned to provide the new students with a holistic platform, ensuring a seamless transition into their new academic pursuits.

The session reached its culmination with the presentation of mementos to the guest speakers by Dr. Vickram Sahai, Principal, HSMS, as a symbolic gesture of gratitude for their invaluable contributions. Dr. Som Aditya Juyal, Associate Professor, HSMS gave the vote of thanks expressing appreciation for the distinguished guest speaker, the alumni and everyone who played a part in making the orientation a grand success.
