The School of Management Studies (SMS), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun organized an interactive awareness session titled “Save the Himalayas” for MBA students on 9 March 2026. The session was conducted by Dr. Shankar Borua, a renowned filmmaker from the Eastern Himalayas and a dedicated environmental campaigner who has been actively promoting awareness on the preservation of the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
The event aimed to sensitize management students towards environmental sustainability and responsible behavior in ecologically sensitive regions, particularly the Himalayas. The session began with a brief introduction of Dr. Borua and his work in environmental advocacy through filmmaking and public engagement. Dr. Borua shared insights from his mission of reaching students across the world to spread awareness about the urgent need to protect mountain ecosystems.
A key highlight of the session was the screening of Dr. Borua’s 2-minute animated film titled “Save the Himalayas.” The film creatively illustrated the growing environmental challenges faced by the Himalayan region due to tourism-related waste, irresponsible human activities, and lack of awareness. The visual storytelling was accompanied by a compelling presentation set to the theme song “Blue Ocean,” which reinforced the message of environmental responsibility and collective action.
During the interactive segment, Dr. Borua engaged the MBA students in a thought-provoking discussion on sustainable tourism, environmental ethics, and the role of educated youth in shaping responsible social behavior. He emphasized a powerful and simple message: “Do Not Litter the Mountains.” Through real-life experiences and examples, he encouraged students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation and to promote responsible travel practices.
The session generated enthusiastic participation from students, who asked questions and shared their perspectives on environmental protection and sustainable development. The discussion also connected environmental awareness with management education by highlighting the role of future business leaders in promoting sustainable practices and responsible corporate behavior.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to Dr. Shankar Borua for his inspiring session and for raising awareness among students about the importance of protecting the Himalayan ecosystem. The School of Management Studies reaffirmed its commitment to integrating environmental responsibility and sustainability awareness into student learning and engagement activities.
This session served as an important step toward nurturing socially responsible management professionals who are conscious of environmental challenges and committed to sustainable development.
