International Mother Language Day Celebration Highlights Cultural Identity and Learning

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Swami Rama Himalayan University organized a dignified celebration of International Mother Language Day on 23 February 2026 at Sushruta Lecture Hall–2. The programme featured Dr. Sumangal Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Hindi, SGRR PG College, Dehradun, as the Chief Guest and keynote speaker. The event aimed to promote awareness of linguistic diversity and the cultural significance of mother languages in shaping identity and knowledge systems. The ceremony began with the welcome of dignitaries, followed by lamp lighting and a traditional invocation.

A highlight of the programme was a series of student presentations on the theme “My Mother Language,” where participants shared insights into the origin, uniqueness, and cultural richness of their native languages. These presentations reflected India’s linguistic diversity and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

In his keynote address, Dr. Sumangal Singh discussed the origin and evolution of languages and emphasized that mother language is not merely a means of communication but the foundation of thought, culture, and identity. He highlighted that early education in one’s mother language strengthens intellectual development and cultural connectedness. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, national anthem, and group photograph, leaving participants inspired to value and preserve their linguistic heritage.
