National Conference on Microbiome Research and Clinical Translation

Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Jolly Grant, hosted a two-day national conference on “Microbiome and the Biotic Family: Research and Development Leading to Clinical and Commercial Implications” on December 19–20, in collaboration with the Gut Microbiota and Probiotic Science Foundation (GMPSF), India. The conference was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan awardee Prof. Nirmal K. Ganguly, former Director General of ICMR and President of GMPSF, who emphasized the role of microbiome research in preventive healthcare, personalized medicine, and public health interventions. Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Vice-Chancellor, SRHU, highlighted the university’s focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. The programme featured expert-led technical sessions on gut microbiome and human health, probiotics and postbiotics, metabolic disorders, cancer therapeutics, gut–brain axis, inflammatory bowel disease, and the role of traditional Indian foods, with participation from premier institutions including AIIMS, IIT Roorkee, IISER, NIN Hyderabad, NCCS Pune, NII, THSTI, ICGEB, Thapar Institute, and the University of Delhi. A panel discussion addressed challenges in clinical validation, regulatory frameworks, and commercialization of microbiome-based solutions. The conference, accredited with eight CME credits by the Uttarakhand Medical Council, concluded with a valedictory session and prize distribution, while the R&D Cell of SRHU, led by Dr. Bindu Dey, noted that the event strengthened academic collaboration and underscored the growing relevance of microbiome research in addressing contemporary health challenges.
