Raising Awareness World TB Day Observed with Skits and Outreach

Published on: March 25, 2025

The Department of Respiratory Medicine in collaboration with Adult Health Nursing, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, SRHU, Swami Ram Nagar, observed World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on 25th March 2025. The event was organized in the OPD area and aimed to educate patients and their attendants about TB—its causes, symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment. Using visual aids like charts and models, the team effectively conveyed critical information to the attendees.

To make the program interactive and engaging, students performed a compelling skit that emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, consistent treatment, and community support in eliminating TB. The performance helped debunk common myths surrounding the disease and stressed the curability of TB with proper medication and follow-up. The event drew around 100 participants, including patients and their family members who were present in the hospital’s reception block.

Dr. Rakhee Khanduri, Professor and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of public awareness and active participation in TB control efforts. She was joined by esteemed faculty members including Dr. Sushant Khanduri, Dr. Varuna Jethani, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Rahul, Dr. Vardhan, and Dr. Sammi, who collectively supported the initiative.

In an extended effort to reach the broader community, a group of students visited Thano village. There, they displayed educational charts, organized a slogan rally, and performed a Nukkad Natak to further raise awareness. This outreach helped spread accurate information and challenged the stigma associated with TB in rural areas.

The event successfully increased public understanding of tuberculosis, dispelled misconceptions, and reinforced the importance of early treatment and community involvement in combating this preventable and treatable disease.
