Report on CME Program on “One Health” Organized by HIMS, SRHU
The Department of Community Medicine, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), successfully organized a Continued Medical Education (CME) program on “One Health” with the theme “One World, One Health – United for Human, Animal, and Environmental Well-being.” The event highlighted the deep interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health, while emphasizing the need for integrated disease surveillance, zoonotic disease prevention, and collaborative multi-sectoral health strategies.
The program was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Vice Chancellor, SRHU; Dr. Hem Chandra Pandey, Director Hospital Services, SRHU; and Dr. Narayan Singh Negi, Joint Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Uttarakhand. The CME was organized under the guidance of Dr. Renu Dhasmana, Principal, HIMS, and coordinated by the dedicated team from the Department of Community Medicine comprising Dr. Jayanti Semwal, Dr. Shaili Vyas, Dr. Neha Sharma, Dr. Niharika Verma, and Junior Residents Dr. Vaibhav Rana, Dr. Chirag Joshi, Dr. Avani Garg, Dr. Abhinav Semwal, Dr. Miteesha Rustagi, and Dr. Ipsitaa Bhushan.
The scientific sessions featured insightful lectures by eminent speakers, including Dr. Narayan Singh Negi, Dr. Arpana Singh, Dr. Gourav Kumar, and Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Choudhary, who addressed key topics such as antimicrobial resistance and its growing threat, human impact on biotic and abiotic environments, and the influence of urbanization and biodiversity loss on emerging diseases. The discussions also emphasized the importance of intersectoral coordination involving veterinary, agriculture, environmental, and urban planning departments to strengthen the One Health approach.
The CME served as an enriching platform for healthcare professionals, fostering awareness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a holistic understanding essential for safeguarding global health.
