On 4th September 2024, the Himalayan School of Science and Technology (HSST) organized a guest lecture titled ‘Oral Health: A Doorway to Your Overall Health’, which was delivered by Dr. Renu Parmar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Surgery at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences. The session, held from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, emphasized the integral relationship between oral hygiene and overall health. Dr. Parmar provided valuable insights into how poor oral hygiene can contribute to serious systemic diseases such as heart ailments and diabetes, while also highlighting the importance of preventive care practices like regular dental check-ups and consistent oral hygiene routines.
With a turnout of 60 participants, the session saw enthusiastic student engagement, facilitated by proactive registration through a Google form and coordination by class faculty. The interactive format of the lecture, especially the Q&A segment, encouraged meaningful dialogue and awareness about oral health’s broader implications. The overwhelmingly positive response from students underscored the session’s effectiveness in raising awareness and promoting healthier lifestyle choices. The event not only fulfilled its objective of educating students about oral-systemic health connections but also reinforced HSST’s commitment to holistic education and student well-being through expert-led, informative initiatives.
