Report on Workshop Internet of Things

Published on: September 16, 2024

The Himalayan School of Science and Technology (HSST) successfully organized a hands-on workshop on the Internet of Things (IoT) on 16th September 2024. The session was designed to offer participants a foundational understanding of IoT concepts along with practical applications, enabling them to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of smart technologies.

The workshop began with an introductory session by Dr. Vibhor Sharma, who provided valuable insights into the relevance of IoT in today’s interconnected world. He emphasized the growing role of IoT in enhancing automation, enabling real-time monitoring, and driving innovations across various sectors including healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities.

Participants were given IoT kits comprising microcontrollers, sensors, and essential components. The practical session started with basic programming exercises such as LED blinking, helping students understand how devices can be controlled using IoT. As the session progressed, they engaged with sensors like the DHT11 for measuring temperature and humidity, Ultrasonic Sensor for distance detection, and Soil Moisture Sensor for applications in agriculture.

A major highlight of the workshop was cloud integration, where students learned to transmit real-time data from the sensors to cloud platforms. This demonstrated how IoT can be used to remotely monitor and control devices, reinforcing its importance in smart environments and sustainable systems.

With 23 participants in attendance, the workshop proved to be a highly effective learning experience. It enhanced the technical skills of the students, sparked curiosity, and encouraged them to delve deeper into IoT technologies. The event successfully blended theoretical learning with hands-on practice, laying a solid foundation for future exploration and innovation in the IoT domain.
