The School of Science & Technology organized a seminar titled “Towards Ethical AI: Machine Unlearning for Data Privacy and Compliance” on April 28, 2025, at Lecture Theatre-06. Delivered by Dr. Shiv Preet, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Technology, the session delved into the emerging field of machine unlearning, highlighting its growing importance amid increasing concerns over data privacy and ethical AI practices. The seminar examined how AI models can be designed to “forget” specific data points, addressing the technical, legal, and moral challenges involved. Dr. Shiv Preet emphasized that unlearning is not just a technical necessity but a fundamental ethical requirement to protect individual rights and maintain public trust. The session covered research challenges such as sustaining model performance post-unlearning, scalability, and certifiable removal of data influence. Engaging discussions encouraged students to explore privacy-preserving technologies shaping AI’s future. The seminar equipped participants with a comprehensive understanding of machine unlearning’s role in fostering transparent, compliant, and ethical AI systems.
