Water and Sanitation Department (WATSAN) of SRHU facilitated an international workshop at Mussoorie under the joint aegis of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) and SARRA (Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority), Government of Uttarakhand. This was attended by 18 delegates from 11 countries of different continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, South America).
The workshop focused on water source conservation, spring rejuvenation, and community-based water management in mountainous regions. During the programme, the WATSAN team delivered a presentation on Springshed Management, highlighting community mobilisation, integration of traditional wisdom with scientific approach, aquifer recharge interventions, water quality, and strengthening village-level institutions.
The presentation demonstrated how active community participation can revive drying water sources, improve drinking water security, and support climate resilience and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through practical and scalable models. We remain committed to promoting community-driven, evidence-based approaches for sustainable water resource management and strengthening collaborative efforts for resilient mountain ecosystems.
