The School of Yoga Sciences at Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) successfully organized Yoga Mahotsav 2026 sponsored by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi, at its Central Park. The event marked the 43-day countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) and served as a vibrant curtain raiser for its global celebrations.
The Mahotsav commenced at sunrise with the lighting of ceremonial lamps, accompanied by resonant Vedic mantras that symbolized the dispelling of darkness and the awakening of inner consciousness. This auspicious beginning set the tone for the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) demonstration, where more than 500 students, faculty members, and yoga enthusiasts performed practices of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) designed for 12th IDY. SRHU’s serene Central Park reverberated with chants and collective energy generated by the joint CYP practice.
The event was graced by several eminent personalities and senior officials of SRHU, including Prof. A. K. Deorari, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Retd. Commander Challa Venketeswar, Registrar; Prof. (Dr.) Archana Prakash, Controller of Examination; Prof. Yogendra Singh, Chief Librarian; Dr. Anuradha Kusum, Vice Principal (UG Medical Programs); Professor A. This event highlighted the upcoming IDY and promoted the relevance of yoga education, research, advocacy, and community engagement.
Lead Yoga Teacher, Prof. Rudra Bhandari, Principal of School of Yoga Sciences, conducted Yoga Mahotsav 2026 as the 43-Countdown Yoga Session of the upcoming 12th IDY. Dr. Bhandari beautifully shared the techniques, precautions, science, indications, and contraindications of somatic, energetic, mental, and spiritual practices included under CYP. This yoga session strongly encouraged participants to practice yoga to be healthy, happy, and harmonious at the individual and societal levels.
At the end of the session, Dr. Bhandari notably taught the guided meditation operationalized by Revered Swami Rama of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition. The meditation helped participants induce a harmonious interplay among body, breath, mind, and spirit.
This Mahotsav encouraged participants to join the grand celebration of the upcoming 12th IDY to echo the global voice regarding the beauty of yoga with Vedic origins. By bringing together students, faculty, and distinguished leaders, SRHU’s initiative showcased its dedication to promoting holistic health and global peace through yoga. As the countdown continues, Yoga Mahotsav 2026 stands as a beacon of inspiration for communities across India and beyond.
The yoga session was concluded with a collective Vedic prayer for global health, happiness, and harmony.
