Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun, participated in the QS I-GAUGE National Summit on AI in Indian Education, held on 20–21 August 2026 at The Leela Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The national summit was supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and brought together academic leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indian education.
Dr. Vijendra Chauhan, Director General, Academic Development, Swami Rama Himalayan University, attended the two-day summit and participated as an invited speaker in the deliberations on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in higher education.
The summit provided a platform for discussion on the implications of AI for teaching and learning, assessment, research, faculty development and institutional transformation. The deliberations emphasized the need for higher education institutions to adopt AI in a responsible, ethical and purposeful manner, while ensuring that technology remains aligned with educational objectives.
An important theme highlighted in the discussions was the need to recognize AI as a means of augmenting faculty capabilities rather than replacing educators. AI can assist teachers in reducing repetitive and administrative work, allowing greater time for teaching, mentoring, research, innovation and student engagement. The discussions also emphasized that faculty should continue to exercise academic judgment and remain responsible for the quality, accuracy and ethical dimensions of education.
The summit also highlighted the importance of pedagogical innovation and evidence-based adoption of AI. Rather than rewarding the mere use of AI tools, institutions were encouraged to assess whether AI-enabled interventions improve student learning, assessment, feedback, personalization and faculty productivity.
Faculty development emerged as another significant area of focus. The discussions emphasized that institutions should create protected time for faculty learning and professional development, enabling teachers to acquire AI literacy, explore new pedagogical approaches, redesign curricula and assessment, and undertake educational scholarship. Faculty development should be integrated into academic workload rather than treated as an additional activity.
The summit further explored the establishment of Centres of Excellence and faculty-led Communities of Practice to promote peer learning and innovation. Such platforms can provide a supportive environment in which faculty members can experiment with emerging technologies, share successful practices, mentor colleagues and scale effective innovations across departments.
The discussions also drew attention to the need for continuous unlearning and relearning. Institutions need to critically examine conventional approaches to teaching, assessment and academic administration and identify practices that should be discontinued, retained or redesigned for the AI-enabled educational environment.
Dr. Vijendra Chauhan’s participation in the national summit provided an opportunity for SRHU to engage with the evolving national discourse on AI in education and to exchange perspectives on faculty capacity building, pedagogical innovation and responsible technology adoption.
The participation reflects SRHU’s continued commitment to academic development and to preparing its faculty and students to navigate emerging technological transformations while preserving the essential human values of education.
The University was conferred the Diamond Rating by QS I-GAUGE in recognition of its academic and institutional excellence. The prestigious award was presented by Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia, Minister for Forest, Environment, Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat.
