Strengthening global collaboration on springshed management and climate-resilient water systems, the WATSAN Department of SRHU, in collaboration with SARRA (Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority), Forest Department, Government of Uttarakhand, organized a structured field exposure visit for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) delegates from 11 countries at the Banganga Spring Rejuvenation Site in the catchment area of Purohitwala village, Dehradun.
The visit provided on-ground understanding of spring rejuvenation interventions, nature-based solutions, and community-based water management practices.
Delegates were oriented to upper catchment area treatment measures such as Chal-Khal, check dams and water & soil conservation measures.
During the visit, the WATSAN team demonstrated the Aquifer Model and Direct Injection Model, sharing technical insights into groundwater recharge mechanisms, scientific approaches to spring conservation, and community-based implementation strategies. The programme also enabled interactive engagement with beneficiary community members, highlighting local experiences, social impacts, and the importance of community ownership.
This field exposure showcased practical, scalable, and evidence-based Springshed Management approaches for Himalayan regions, strengthening knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and climate-resilient water resource management.
