A three-member delegation from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, led by Prof. OHNEDA Osamu, Vice President, University of Tsukuba, visited **Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) on 3 June 2026 to further strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two universities.
The delegation comprised Prof. ISODA Hiroko, Professor, Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba, and Prof. FUKUSHIGE Mizuho, Assistant Professor, Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba.
The meeting commenced with the inaugural and welcome address by Dr. A.K. Deorari, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SRHU. In his address, Dr. Deorari briefed the delegation about the various research collaboration ideas shared by researchers from SRHU with their counterparts at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Thereafter, Dr. Vijendra Chauhan, Director General, Academic Development, SRHU, delivered a presentation highlighting the vision, academic strengths, healthcare services, research ecosystem, and institutional achievements of SRHU.
As part of the academic deliberations, the heads of the constituent academic units of SRHU presented research proposals submitted by their respective faculty members for possible collaboration under the LOTUS Scheme of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Both universities have a functional MoU that fosters research collaboration, faculty exchange, and student exchange, thereby providing a strong institutional framework for advancing joint academic and research initiatives.
The Japanese delegation appreciated the active participation of all constituent academic units and expressed that the discussions reflected a positive way forward for meaningful collaboration between the two universities. They acknowledged the interdisciplinary research potential at SRHU and emphasized the importance of identifying focused areas for future academic and research partnerships.
In his address, *Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, emphasized the need to maintain constant dialogue between researchers of both universities. He stated that researchers from SRHU and the University of Tsukuba would explore opportunities to jointly apply for various national and international grants by leveraging the complementary strengths and potential of both institutions.
During the visit, the delegation also toured various facilities of the university and hospital, including the Diagnostic Laboratory, Cancer Care and Research Centre, Rural Development Institute (RDI), and Swami Rama Centre. The delegates appreciated the high standards of clinical practices being followed at SRHU and were particularly impressed by the outreach initiatives undertaken by RDI for community development.
The visit marked an important step in deepening the academic, clinical, and research engagement between SRHU and the University of Tsukuba, Japan.
