The Department of Pathology at Swami Rama Himalayan University organized a guest lecture on January 10, 2025, titled “Cytogenetics Assay.” The lecture was delivered by Ms. Nitika Kawli, Product Manager at DSS Imagetech Pvt. Ltd., Delhi, and focused on the evolving landscape of cytogenetic diagnostics.
Ms. Kawli introduced the participants to cytogenetic techniques, with a particular emphasis on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). She elaborated on the principles, process, and diagnostic applications of FISH in identifying genetic abnormalities, especially in hematological malignancies and solid tumors.
The session highlighted how FISH enhances diagnostic precision, especially where conventional karyotyping falls short. Ms. Kawli walked the audience through the step-by-step protocol, instrumentation requirements, and clinical indications of the test. She also showcased real-world scenarios where FISH has transformed patient management and treatment planning.
Approximately 20 participants attended the session, engaging actively with case-based questions and discussions. The intimate setting enabled deeper understanding of molecular cytogenetics and its role in personalized medicine.
This guest lecture enriched participants’ knowledge of advanced molecular diagnostic tools, encouraging the integration of FISH and cytogenetics in routine clinical pathology. It served as a platform to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical implementation, fostering awareness and interest in this critical area of modern diagnostic science.
