On March 27, 2025, the Himalayan School of Science & Technology (HSST) hosted a hands-on workshop on WordPress exclusively for B.Tech 3rd-year students. Held at Computer Lab-1 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, the session was led by Dr. Gaurav Sharma and Ms. Simranjeet Kaur from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
The workshop offered a comprehensive walkthrough of WordPress setup and management, starting with the installation of XAMPP—a local server platform comprising Apache, MySQL, and PHP—and its integration with WordPress. Students learned to configure Apache and MySQL via the XAMPP Control Panel and create databases using phpMyAdmin. The trainers guided students through each step of downloading WordPress, placing it in the correct directory, and completing the installation process through a web browser.
Once the technical setup was complete, students delved into WordPress functionalities. They explored customizing themes, managing plugins, creating menus, and utilizing widgets to enhance website usability. Emphasis was placed on the importance of WordPress in real-world applications such as blogging, e-commerce, and content-driven websites across industries.
The primary objective of the workshop was to equip students with the ability to build, configure, and manage WordPress websites independently. By the end of the session, students not only gained confidence in using the platform but also developed a strong foundation in modern web development tools and practices.
With 19 participants actively engaging in the session, the workshop successfully blended theoretical knowledge with practical implementation. It also encouraged students to explore web technologies beyond the classroom, paving the way for future learning and innovation in the digital space.
The event demonstrated HSST’s commitment to fostering industry-relevant technical skills, ensuring students are better prepared for the evolving demands of the tech sector.
