The Department of Dermatology observed World Vitiligo Day on 25th June 2025 with a special patient awareness activity held within the OPD premises. The initiative was designed to educate patients about vitiligo, bust common myths, and promote empathy and understanding toward those living with the condition.
The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness among patients and caregivers about vitiligo, addressing misconceptions and stigma associated with the disease. The session aimed to foster open communication, dispel myths, and encourage early consultation and treatment. There was participation from 10 postgraduate students with 60 patients and attendees as beneficiaries.
The program was well received by patients and attendants. An engaging educational video, specifically created for this purpose, was screened, focusing on debunking prevalent myths related to vitiligo. Patients were encouraged to ask questions, leading to an interactive and informative session.
This was followed by a poster display prepared and presented by the postgraduate students, further reinforcing key messages.
The session significantly improved patient understanding of vitiligo, encouraged open dialogue, and helped reduce anxiety associated with the disease. The involvement of postgraduate students not only enriched the learning environment but also empowered them in patient education and advocacy.
