The Department of Nursing, Himalayan Hospital, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), celebrated International Nurses Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and dignity on 12th May 2026 at Aadi Kailash Auditorium under the global theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
Mr. Solomon Thapaliyal, Incharge and Ms. Kavita Naudiyal, Quality nurse, Department of Nursing hosted the event.
The programme was organized to recognize, appreciate, and honour the dedication, compassion, resilience, and valuable contribution of the nursing fraternity towards patient care, patient safety, and healthcare excellence. The celebration witnessed the gracious presence of distinguished dignitaries, nursing leaders, faculty members, hospital administrators, staff nurses, students, and healthcare professionals.
The event commenced with a prayer ceremony, followed by the unveiling of the Nurses Day 2026 theme by Dr. Sanchita Pugazhendi, Principal, Himalayan College of Nursing. While addressing the gathering, she highlighted the significance of empowering nurses through knowledge, confidence, leadership, and professional excellence, emphasizing that empowered nurses play a vital role in strengthening healthcare systems and saving lives.
The programme was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Kathleen M. McKeehan, Professor of Practice & Nursing Advisor, along with distinguished dignitaries including Ms. Sadhna Mishra, Director Operations; Dr. (Brig.) R. S. Saini (Retd.), Deputy Medical Superintendent; Dr. Abhishek Kandwal; Dr. Rajmani Pandey;
During her address, Chief Guest Dr. Kathleen M. McKeehan congratulated the nursing fraternity and spoke about the importance of empowering nurses through continuous learning, innovation, and leadership development for the future of healthcare. Dr. (Brig.) R. S. Saini (Retd.) appreciated the sincere efforts and dedication of nurses in strengthening quality healthcare and NABH practices, while emphasizing the importance of the theme “Our Nurses. Our Future.” Ms. Sadhna Mishra extended her heartfelt congratulations and blessings to the nursing fraternity for their dedicated services and commitment towards compassionate patient care. Dr. Lovneesh Kumar appreciated the continuous contribution of nurses in promoting patient safety and safe healthcare practices within the hospital.
A special Nursing Excellence Showcase Presentation highlighted the major achievements and milestones of the Department of Nursing during the year 2025–2026. The presentation included the promotion of 15 Incharges and 2 Assistant Nursing Superintendents, publication of research studies, participation and achievements in academic competitions, successful completion of NABH Re-Surveillance Round held from 23rd to 25th May 2025, orientation programmes, Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) activities, patient safety initiatives, exposure programmes, workshops, and community awareness activities.
The achievements of the GDA Training Programme were also highlighted, where two batches successfully completed training and are now serving within the hospital, while the third batch has commenced with approximately 40 students. The programme also showcased various academic activities organized throughout the year, including the Internal Workshop conducted in July 2025, Regional Level Workshop on “Empowering Nurses for Safe Patient Care” organized on 09th May 2026, and the Panel Discussion on “Safe Care for Every Patient: From Awareness to Action in Building a Culture of Patient Safety” conducted on 17th September 2025.
The celebration also recognized the contribution of nursing staff who actively participated as trainers, guest speakers, panelists, and resource persons in workshops and seminars both within and outside the institution. Positive patient feedbacks received throughout the year and reduction in infection rates in PICU were also acknowledged as proud achievements of the nursing and infection control teams. The department also respectfully honoured four retired nursing staff members for their years of dedicated service towards the institution.
As part of the celebration, “Clinical Nurse Excellence Awards 2026” were presented to selected nursing officers in recognition of their outstanding contribution towards compassionate care, clinical excellence, leadership, teamwork, and patient safety.
The programme also showcased the various activities organized during Nurses Week Celebration 2026 from 05th to 09th May 2026, including “Swaranjali: The Retro Antakshri Showdown,” “Brainwave Blitz: The Nursing Quiz,” “Rangmanch: The Prop Dance Expression,” “Clash of Perspectives: The Nursing Debate Forum,” “Ehsaas-e-Seva: Poetry Session,” and the Regional Workshop on “Empowering Nurses for Safe Patient Care.”
The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, vote of thanks, and group photograph, marking a memorable occasion dedicated to the spirit of nursing service, teamwork, leadership, and professional excellence.
